Goritsy

I woke this morning feeling a bit ordinary. I did notice a lot of

people coughing yesterday and it really annoys me to see people coughing without covering their mouth. It probably doesnt make any difference but common courtesy should prevail. As the day progressed I seemed to be getting worse with my throat starting to burn. We had some Strepsils and Carol gave me some vapour drops as well to try and stop it.

Today's cruise takes us to the town of Goritsy along the Volga Baltic waterway. This is a pretty busy river route with a lot of ships and barges using it to move goods.

The Abbey

The attractions at Goritsy are the convent and one of the largest medievil abbeys in  Russia, the Monastery of St Cyril. This is home to icon paintings dating back to the 16th Century. Like many other religious places we have visited, there is a lot of restoration work happening.

The houses in the area are mostly timber and most have house gardens. They make our home garden look pathetic.

Back on the ship we had a demonstration on cooking blini, a traditional Russian Pancake.  After that we had another Russian folk song sing along.

Still feeling pretty flat we retired after dinner and dosed up on cold and flu tabs, tiger balm on my neck, and strepsil. Hopefully this will kill off the lurgy.
