The road.... airway to Russia

There is something about travelling to a new location that stirs the excitement but also some apprehension. Maybe it is the movies about Russia being depicted as a colourless drab and secretive place that instills these thoughts. After our recent trip to Kyrgyzstan, a lot of those myths were dispelled but there is still an aire of mystery about Russia.

Our journey started at 0430 AM. Far too early to get up but a 1 hour drive to be at the airpor 2 hours before take off left us around 40 minutes the have a coffee and shower. The traffic was light at that hour and rightfully so, arrriving st the airport at 630 AM. Everything went relatively smoothly at check in. We were taken to business class check in from the economy queue, got through security without issue and even through departure gate unchallenged.

The next thing we knew we were boarding the plane. Hang on... what is this centre row seat rubbish. I was sure I booked window and adjoining seat. Oh well we were close to the front.

We arrived at Changi airport after a around 7 1/2 hours arriving around 3.30 PM. Our connecting flight left at 11.55 pm so we had a bit of time to wander around. My first stop was a massage. My neck was giving me hell and I wasnt going to last the 13 hour long haul to Frankfurt. Once that was sorted out we wandered though the butterfly enclosure in the airport. It was an interesting and refreshing break but we still had time to kill.

In the Butterfly House

We booked ourselves on a free Singapore evening tour. This takes you out of the airport and around some of the city sights. The Formula 1 grand prix in only a week away so barricades were everywhere. We still got some great pictures and a feel for this tiny island nation. The  garden by the bay was amazing as was the architecture in the city. Our guide tells us this nation has an average of 10000 people per square km . Too many for me

Back at the airport we found a great noodle place to eat before we headed to the boarding lounge
At 11.55 pm we boarded ready for another sleepless night in the plane. Once again we had centre row seats . Grrrr
