Moscow Day 1

As we approach Moscow, the speed of the ship decreases dramatically. We are now on a narrow man made channel passing several other ships going in the opposite direction. As the metropolis of Moscow comes into sight the high rise apartments come into sight and the constant stream of aircraft arriving and departing one of  the airports are visible.

We arrived in Moscow around 1.00PM  and it was straight into the tour. This tour took us to the Red Square via a short scenic tour to get there.  The highest point in Moscow is Sparrow Hill and has a commanding view over the city. Moscow has over 12 -13 million people not including the 17 million living in the outer areas.

The Red Square has many points of interest. The most known will be the Kremlin and St Basil's Cathedral. There is also a tomb of the unknown Soldier, Lennin's Tomb and the Gum Department store complex as well as a plethora of other beautiful buildings. This is just a brief walking tour to familiarise ourselves. We returned to the ship for a light snack before heading off to the folk dancing show back near the city centre in the evening.

St Basils

The folk dancing and music was high energy for most of the night, showcasing traditional robes and garments as well as different musical instruments and dances. Any visit to Moscow should include this show.

Back on the ship we had a late dinner and off to bed for another early start the following morning.
